I had decided not to go fishing for the year of 2014 due to the empty reservoirs in Northern California ruining my chances of catching white bass at Lake Nacimiento. But some college friends called me to see if I wanted to join them for a 1/2 day party boat trip. So I bought a day pass and went on my only 2014 fishing trip out of Pierpoint Landing in Long Beach.
Casting my 20 pound surf-fishing rig with cut sardines and squid, the fish of the day was sculpin. Nonstop sculpin for five hours pulling from 200-300 feet. The other guys in my party were getting pretty much the same although I saw a few others: a lingcod and a white sea bass that were both undersized. Looking forward to next year…
